About the M16 Assault Rifle
The M16 is a United States-designed rifle that has been in use since the 1960’s, when it was first deployed for jungle warfare operations during the Vietnam War. It is a gas operated, selective fire weapon, chambered for the 5.56×45 mm (.223 Remington) round.
When National Service was introduced in Singapore, the M16 was the rifle of choice for Servicemen. It later went on to be the longest-serving rifle in the Singapore Armed Forces, and is the rifle most memorable to many generations of NSmen.
